8. Drag Chains and Wiring

Parts Needed

Instructions
Drag Chain Carrier Install
1. Insert two (2) M5-10mm SHCS and two washers onto a left-side table leg. From the outer left face of the table leg, loosely fasten two (2) M5 T-nut on each screw. Repeat this for all four (4) left-side table legs.
2. Slide the drag chain carrier onto the pre-installed T-nuts, through the T-slot.
3. Tighten the M5-10mm SHCS to secure the T-nuts in place.
Drag Chain Routing
1. Grab the drag chains. Connect the sections together so you get one full X-axis drag chain and one full Y-axis drag chain. Make sure the end links face the same direction before joining the sections together.
2. For all drag chains, open up the clips using a flathead screwdriver.
3. For the X-axis drag chain and the Z-axis drag chain, remove the end links. Keep track of the different end links, and remember that each drag chain needs one male (stud) and one female (hole) to reconnect.
4. Install a female drag chain end link onto the X-axis rail with two (2) M5-10mm SHCS and M5 T-nuts.
5. Install another male end link onto the drag chain bracket (back of the Z-axis) with two (2) M5-10mm SHCS and M5 nylock nuts.
6. Then, install a female end link onto the drag chain arm using two (2) M5-10mm SHCS and M5 nylock nuts.
7. Lay the Y-axis drag chain down onto the carrier, then attach the front of the drag chain to the carrier’s T-slot using one (1) M5-10mm SHCS and M5 T-nut.
8. Grab the spindle cable and carefully plug it into the top of the spindle, minding the keyed features. Thread the ring around the connector, to fasten the cable completely.
9. Route the spindle cable onto the drag chain arm’s end link. If you have the ATC, also route the pneumatic (air line) tubing and signal cable. Then attach the Z-axis drag chain onto the drag chain arm. Route the spindle cable (or spindle, signal cables and tubing) through the Z-axis drag chain. Close the clips to keep these in place.
10. Install the final male end link onto the drag chain bracket (back of the Z-axis) with two (2) M5-10mm SHCS and M5 nylock nuts. Attach the Z-axis drag chain onto this end link.
11. Grab the Z-axis motor cable, and plug in the motor and power connectors into the Z-axis motor. Also plug in the black connector for the inductive sensor on the Z-axis.
12. Route the Z-axis motor cable, sensor cable and spindle cable (or spindle, signal cables and tubing) through the X-axis drag chain. Secure the X-axis drag chain using the end links at the drag chain bracket and X-rail. Close the clips to keep these in place.
13. Grab the X-axis motor cable, and plug in the motor and power connectors in the X-axis motor. Also plug in the black connector for the inductive sensor on the X-axis.
14. Grab the Y2 cable. Fit the motor end of the Y2 cable (with the green motor and power connectors) into the wire feeder. Feed the Y2 cable through the X-axis rail, from the right to the left side. The Y2 motor is on the right side of the machine.
15. Plug the motor and power connectors, as well as the sensor connector, into the Y2 motor and sensor respectively.
16. Grab the Y1 cable, and plug in the motor and power connectors into the Y1 motor. Also plug in the black connector for the inductive sensor on the Y1-axis.
17. Attach the other end of the Y-axis drag chain to the tensioning bracket, using two (2) M5-16mm SHCS and M5 nylock nuts.
18. Fit the cables from the X-axis through the cable cover, and securely attach the cover to the Y-axis gantry using one (1) M5-20mm XL tall head screw. Repeat for the Y2 cables on the right side of the machine.
19. Route all the cables through the Y-axis drag chain. Then close the clips.
Motor Covers
1. On all four (4) motors, remove two (2) screws diagonal from each, near where the green connectors are.
2. Install a motor cover on each motor, using the supplied M3-40mm SHCS, and make sure to orient the cover so the wires can exit easily, without pinching.
