Changing EEPROM Settings & S Value

Connecting Your Longmill

You should already be familiar with this process, connect your Longmill to your machine interface.

If you need a refresher for connecting the Longmill with gSender click here: https://resources.sienci.com/view/gs-using-gsender/

Setting Your S Value Max

Setting your S value max correctly will ensure you have access to 100% of your laser’s power.

This value should always match your maximum spindle speed in your GRBL EEPROM settings. S value max = $30 value

Lightburn

Click on the ‘Device Settings’ Icon

Change ‘S-value max’ to 255

Click OK to save new setting

Setting Maximum Spindle Speed

Setting your maximum spindle speed to match your S value max will ensure you have access to 100% of your laser’s power.

This is how your Longmill determines what percentage of power you have access to: (S value max/maximum spindle speed) x 100 = max percentage of power you can access

Example 1: (255/255) x 100 = 100%

Example 2: (100/1000) x 100 = 10%

Example 3: (1000/1000) x 100 = 100%

We recommend you use the value 255 for both S value max and maximum spindle speed but you can use any value as long as you ensure the value is the same for both S value max and maximum spindle speed

gSender Version 1.04 Bug

We have found a bug in gSender v1.04 that may automatically set your maximum spindle speed setting ($30) to 1 and your minimum spindle speed setting ($31) to 100. Please manually change your settings to the recommended $30=255 (or whatever s value max is set to in lightburn or any other laser code generating software) and $31 = 0.

If you do not use a PWM spindle with your Longmill, leave gSender in Laser mode enabled and do not switch back or these settings may be changed automatically.

To avoid any issues you can confirm that your Firmware settings are correctly set before running a laser job.
