Instructions

1. Use four (4) M4-18mm SHCS to install the flags onto the Y-axis rail at each corner.

Take note of the different flag positions at the front of the machine, depending on the default or joinery configuration.

2. Use eight (8) M4-18mm SHCS to install one (1) Y-gantry plate onto the linear guide blocks at the front of the machine.

Ensure the linear guide blocks are seated on the reference edge of the Y-gantry plate, then fully tighten the screws. Repeat for the other side of the machine.

3. Place the X-axis rail assembly on the table, resting across the left and right Y-rails.

Ensure it is oriented correctly, the AltMill sticker should be upright and facing the front.

4. Thread two (2) M6-35mm BHFS into the top two (2) holes of the X-rail extrusion, on each side, until you cannot see the blue Loctite on the screws.

5. Flip the X-axis rail assembly onto its back, exposing the bottom.

6. Prepare two (2) gussets, by inserting one (1) M5-16mm SHCS and one (1) M5-45mm SHCS into each gusset.

Loosely install two (2) M5 T-nuts onto the ends of these screws.

Then slide a gusset into the T-slot on the X-rail bottom, at each end of the X-rail.

7. With a partner, lift the X-axis rail from each end, then seat the M6-35mm screws onto the top slots of the Y-gantry plates.

8. Clamp the X-axis rail to the Y-axis gantry plate using a standard woodworking clamp. Make sure the X-axis rail is seated on the reference edges of the Y-gantry plates.

If the X-axis rail is not seated in the reference and there is a gap between the plate and rail, slightly tighten the M6-35mm BHFS until there is contact.

9. Tightly secure the Y-gantry and X-rail together using two more (2) M6-35mm BHFS.

Then tighten the top two (2) M6-35mm BHFS at the slots. Repeat for the other Y-gantry.

10. Slide the gusset towards the Y-gantry.

Push the gusset into the X-rail and Y-gantry, as you fasten three (3) M6-25mm BHCS into the gusset using the included 4mm hex key. Repeat for the other end of the X-rail.

11. Thread one (1) sensor nut and washer onto the inductive sensor, until it reaches the back.

Install one (1) integrated bump stop, threading it until it bottoms out. Secure the sensor in place with the pre-installed sensor nut, using the AltMill wrench. Do not overtorque or it will break.

12. Grab the X-axis motor, and orient it so that the microstepping DIP switches face the bottom. Use an Allen key to fully tighten the coupler onto the motor shaft, at the set screw.

13. Mount the motor to the left Y-gantry, then firmly secure it using four (4) M5-10mm SHCS. Use the Allen key to fully tighten the coupler onto the ballscrew, at the set screw.
