Product Details

The Sienci Labs Spindle Kit was developed to be as ‘plug and play’ as possible with the AltMill CNC system. This kit utilizes an air cooled 1.5KW, 24,000 RPM spindle, driven by a 110/120V VFD unit. All spindles go through a break-in process in-house, and all VFD units are pre-programmed and tested before shipment. The maximum runout of the spindle inside taper is 0.01mm.

Each spindle kit comes with

  • An air cooled 1.5KW, 24,000 RPM spindle with an ER16 sized collet
  • A 110/120V 1.5kW VFD unit with pre-installed cables for spindle control and power
  • ⅛”, ¼”, and ⅜” ER16 collets
  • Two spindle wrenches
  • VFD mounting bracket
  • Dust shoe kit

The ER16 collet size allows cutting bits with a diameter of up to ⅜” or 10mm to be used. Note that the ER16 collet nut uses an M19x1.0 thread.

The spindle itself is 80mm in diameter, and is mounted within the AltMill’s included 80mm spindle mount. The height at which the spindle sits at can be easily adjusted to fit a specific setup/project’s needs by loosening the two M5-25mm clamping screws at the front of the mount.

The VFD unit is mounted on the inside corner of the front left table leg of the AltMill using the included VFD mounting bracket. If you’d like to mount this elsewhere, this can be screwed into any surface using the two diagonal screw holes on the corners of the VFD. You’ll want to ensure this is mounted at least 2” away from any other objects or walls, and that the upper fan intake on the unit is not covered/restricted. You’ll also want to make sure that it doesn’t sit in any area where it may be prone to intake dust through its air intake.

To communicate with the machine’s controller system, a serial communication protocol known as ‘RS485’ is used. This allows the control system to not only send commands to the spindle system, but to also receive feedback from the spindle system, such as spindle speed.
